Heather Sharkey, D.O.
Location
Dr. Heather Sharkey began her medical career practicing on her sister鈥痺ith a Fisher Price medical kit. Dr. Sharkey graduated from Rutgers College with a degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry where she won a Howard Hughes鈥痜ellowship award to perform research in cell death and degeneration on鈥疌.鈥疎legans鈥痷nder the mentorship of Dr. Dewey Royal in Dr. Monica Driscoll's lab. She attended medical school at the 91传媒 College of Osteopathic Medicine (91传媒 COM) and completed her Family Medicine residency and NMM/OMM plus one residency at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. While a senior resident, she was recognized by Tufts University for鈥痶eaching excellence in pediatrics. Dr. Sharkey is board certified in Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM).
She was awarded the Young Osteopathic Physician of the Year Award in 2013 by the Maine Osteopathic Association. 鈥疭he was recognized as a Times Record "Best of the Midcoast" Physician in 2022. 鈥疍r. Sharkey studied Traditional Osteopathy with James Jealous, DO (2008-2021 when he passed), Donald Hankinson, DO, and Gregory Yesensky, DO. She has taught Osteopathic Clinical Skills鈥痑t 91传媒 COM since 2012. 鈥疍r. Sharkey practiced Family Medicine for 18 years before increasing her teaching to full time. She continues to care for patients in her small NMM/OMM private practice in Topsham, Maine. Her hobbies include being curious about lots of things, reading, writing, hiking, gardening, cooking, listening to the Portland Symphony Orchestra, watching at the Maine State Music Theater, enjoying the natural world, and spending time with friends and family.
