Gil Zamora is a cognitive evidence expert and a lecturer for forensic eyewitness interviews. He received his Master’s degree in Education from San José State University, and his Bachelor’s, from National University, in Behavioral Sciences.

Gil retired as the Police Artist for the largest police agency in Silicon Valley in 2011. He has interviewed over 3,000 eyewitnesses and was instrumental in solving some of the most heinous crimes in the Bay Area. He has testified as an expert witness numerous times, and his sketches have led to hundreds of suspect identifications. 

After retirement from law enforcement, Gil was featured as the forensic artist in the highly acclaimed marketing campaign: 
The Real Beauty Sketches (2013). Gil showcased his unique forensic art techniques in a way that brought about real discussions about how women saw themselves. The sketch results were dramatic, and the video was viewed over 100 million times worldwide, bringing attention to self-perception and the idea of real beauty.

Gil was invited to be a speaker at the event in 2018, where he spoke about best practices for forensic artists and the issues of eyewitness memory contamination. He’s appeared on the Forensic Files, featured guest at CrimeCon, keynote speaker at Wicklander-Zulawski major training event, and Murder Unscripted podcast.

Gil has published two books: The Mindful Interview Method: Retrieving Cognitive Evidence (CRC Press, 2023) and The Essentials of the Mindful Interview Method - A Training Manual for Gathering Reliable Statements (CRC Press, 2027). The first book provides background on his interview method, while the second is a how-to for interview practitioners.
