Dora Mills interviewed on WMTW News 8 about Maine’s public health nurse vacancy rate

Dora Mills, M.D., M.P.H., was interviewed by WMTW News 8 for a story that aired on November 6, 2014, concerning the fact that 13 of Maine’s public health nurse positions are currently vacant.

Mills, the former head of the Maine CDC from 1996 to 2011, commented that the state’s public health nurses are "our ground troops here in… Maine to respond to any emerging health issue whether it’s a public health emergency… or just regular old flu and other health issues…"

She expressed unease about the high number of vacancies, stating, "When I hear that about a third of our public health nurses positions are vacant around the state, the concern to me is whether they are able to fully respond to emerging issues."
